About
Hello. My name is Ileana Morales. I’m a writer living in Tampa, Florida. I grew up in Miami on a lot of gallopinto, and I visit every few months to see my parents, two younger sisters (Melissa and Lila), aunts, uncle, and cousins. And my abuelita, whenever she’s visiting from Nicaragua.
A Little Saffron Would Make This! is about my cooking life, which is one shared with my boyfriend, Danny. I write and take pictures for the blog, and we mostly cook together.
The blog’s name comes from a line in Ratatouille, a movie that charmed me and reminded us that anyone can cook. I’m a former vegetarian and one-time vegan who now occasionally eats meat, but I’m still keen on vegetables and those years changed the way I eat. The food featured on this blog is mostly simple, and you’ll see new posts two to three times each week.
I also write In Our Kitchen, a column based on this blog, for the Tampa Bay Times. Read the first column for a somewhat more complete story of our cooking lives.
I’ve written for several news organizations, including The Associated Press, the Tampa Bay Times (formerly the St. Petersburg Times), The Miami Herald, Reuters, and Bay Pop magazine.
